UK Status
Resident. Widespread, but seldom common. Found in
Britain as far north as the Caledonian Canal.
Montgomeryshire Status
First recorded in 2013 at Middletown in the east of the county. A
fairly uncommon species in north Wales. Probably overlooked.

M & F 4-5mm.
Confusion species
Many species of Stigmella are very similar. One of the best ways of
separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine.

Lifestage data
Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva produces a slender
winding gallery with narrow linear frass throughout. Pupates in a dark
